🚤🌊 2025 Mini Boat Parade at Flood Zone Brewery Let’s Make Waves for a Good Cause! Mark your calendars! It’s almost time for one of our favorite local traditions: the 2025 Mini Boat Parade at Flood Zone Brewery in Union Bridge, Maryland, raising funds for the New Windsor and Union Bridge Fire Departments.
For six years, Flood Zone Brewery has hosted this vibrant, fun-filled event to support those who protect our community. The New Windsor Fire Department would like to thank the Flood Zone Brewery for their years of support.
Honoring a Hometown Hero: Mr. Howard Cassell Roop This year’s New Windsor Fire Department entry honors Mr. Howard Cassell Roop, a charter member of the department and a cornerstone of our town. Many remember Mr. Roop as the proud owner of Roop’s Grocery Store (now Uncle Matty’s Eatery), but his service extended far beyond our small town.
During World War II, Mr. Roop served bravely in the United States Coast Guard Merchant Marines, ensuring critical supplies reached Allied Forces while aboard Liberty Ships, including the Aedanus Burke, John Gibbon, and George E. Hale. His courage under dangerous conditions helped keep the lifelines open for freedom and peace.
In recognition of his faithful service, Mr. Roop received the Presidential Testimonial Letter, Victory Medal, Honorable Service Button, and the Merchant Marine Emblem—a testament to a life of dedication to community and country.
